One Eagle Among the Buzzards

Eagle's talk with congress about the Bill

A part of the Forest Fable Series

By Forest Moss (c) 2025

**The Council of One Eagle Among the Buzzards**

*High in an ancient oak’s embrace,*

*Eagleton spoke before the place—*

*A congress of buzzards gathered tight,*

*To weigh his words by fading light.*

Eagleton cried through golden air,

“Let’s seal this pact and show our flair!

No rival wing shall match our might—

Our unity will light the night.”

But Owliver, gray and keen,

Furrowed brow at Eagleton’s scene.

“A heavy law, though brightly cast,

Can break the wings it meant to own.”

Sir Reginald Wingnut beat his wings in fervent plea,

“These shining rules shall set us all free!”

We’ll soar unchallenged over trees,

And every foe shall bend their knees.

Owliver’s steady gaze met all,

“Remember storms can break a palm.

A limb that bends escapes the harm,

While rigid beams will crack in storm.”

The Honorable Scavenger Scroop clamored with zeal,

“Our fame, our power—let all appeal!

This bill’s our route to renown—

A glory none can take down!”

Owliver’s voice then rose above,

“True strength is tempered by our love.

Should we enforce with iron glove,

Or lift each wing with gentle shove?”

A hush fell heavy on the hall—

Each buzzard felt ambition proud.

Yet whispered winds did softly call,

“Beware the price of ruling all.”

Sir Reginald Wingnut stilled upon a bough,

“My heart beats true—I wonder how

Such binding law could teach us now

To share the skies and humbly bow.”

Owliver soared into the blue,

“A noble congress must pursue

What’s just and kind, in thought and view—

Not clutch at power like a tethered wing.”

So Eagleton and the buzzards there

Set aside the gilt-bound snare.

They chose instead the wiser care:

To let each wing find freedom’s air.

**Moral:**

A law too rigid brings the fall;

But wisdom shelters one and all.

Choose what’s right and stand up tall—

Lest power’s weight should be your pall.

**Why I Wrote This**

*I crafted this fable to illustrate that true leadership balances strength with compassion—too many strict rules can stifle growth and trust. By showing Eagleton among a congress of buzzards, I wanted to highlight how a single voice of reason (embodied by Owliver) can guide a group away from short-sighted ambition.*

*In today’s world, decisions made in haste for the sake of power often backfire. This story reminds readers—young and old—that wisdom and flexibility can safeguard communities, ensuring that freedom and cooperation endure.*
